Mamou is a quiet little town of about 3,500 people nested in a grove of trees, surrounded by the flat land of the Mamou Prairie. From which its name originated from the French, Spanish and Acadian settlers of the 18th century. The settlers cultivated the unique music, food, and language of the area that we have today in Mamou. Descendants of these settlers continue to practice These art forms - not so much for the preservation of it, as for the joy of it.
